Bonhams Concludes Travel & Exploration Auction

Bonhams concluded its "Travel & Exploration: including the Roger Ward Photography Collection" auction, realizing £532,966 with an 86.7% sell-through rate.

Among the top lots, BLAEU (JAN) [Atlas maior] Nuevo Atlas o Teatro del Mundo, vol. 1-7 and 10 FIRST EDITION IN SPANISH, vol. 8-9 and 11 in Latin, Amsterdam, Jan Blaeu, 1659-1662 carried an estimate of £180,000 to £220,000. Vera Southby's Portrait of a Yunnanese boy, Kunming, Yunnan Province was estimated at £6,000 to £8,000. John William Lindt's 'Picturesque New Guinea' had an estimate of £5,000 to £7,000.

Other notable lots included CHINA AND EAST ASIA Album of 59 views, estimated from £4,000 to £6,000, and a CHINA Group of 49 views, with an estimate of £4,000 to £6,000. A Collection of Voyages and Travels by Awnsham and John Churchill carried an estimate of £3,000 to £5,000. Marciano Antonio Baptista's A busy street scene, Gilman's Bazaar, Hong Kong was estimated at £3,000 to £5,000, while his A busy Hong Kong street scene, Gilman's Bazaar, with sampans along the waterfront was expected to bring £3,000 to £5,000.
